New York New York - 17th October 2013

New York State is situated in the Northeastern region of the United States. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Ontario to the west and north, and Quebec to the north. The state of New York is often referred to as New York State, so as to distinguish it from New York City.
New York City, has an estimated population of over 8.3 million, and is the most populous city in the United States. Alone, it makes up over 40 percent of the population of New York state. It is known for its status as a centre for finance and culture and for its status as the largest gateway for immigration to the United States. New York City attracts considerably more foreign visitors than any other US city. Both the state and city were named after the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England.

New York has around 100 Elmo's (The Red One). They stand on street corners, then jump out and get you to take a picture, after which they charge you for the privilege. Beware, its not just Elmo's, there are hundreds of different characters all waiting to catch the tourist. This pic cost $5.00.

The Sphere is a large metallic sculpture by German sculptor Fritz Koenig, currently displayed in Battery Park it once stood in the middle of Austin Tobin Plaza, the area between the World Trade Centre Twin Towers. It was recovered from the rubble of the Twin Towers after the September 11th attacks in 2001, the artwork faced an uncertain fate, and it was dismantled into its components. Although it remained structurally intact, it had been visibly damaged by debris from the events of September 11th.
